Our History

Keith Nelson - The Dental Family for Your Family.

After 5 years down at Otago University Dental School captaining rugby for Otago and the South Island and Playing for NZ all Blacks in 1962, Keith married Aldyth (a senior dental school Orthodontic nurse and Otago Beauty Queen) and graduated with a dental degree.

After a short stint practising dentistry in Balclutha, Keith Nelson headed back home to Auckland with his new wife. Here Keith continued his career out in the wild west of Auckland, now captaining rugby in Ponsonby, Auckland and the North Island.

Opening his own practice Keith Nelson and Associates in 1965, the strong family ties to the dental profession meant the practise was based around family dentistry with a strong emphasis on orthodontics and early care. This continues to this day.

It was inevitable that a practice in Ponsonby would be opened as Keith was born and raised in Ponsonby and had a strong affiliation with PDRFC (Ponsonby District Rugby Football Club). So in 1997 Keith Nelson & Associates Dental Clinic, Ponsonby was opened. This time, with daughter Vikki, who had graduated in the early 1990’s from Otago University Dental School.

Not just the aesthetics in the mouth but how this affected the whole face, became a real passion for Vikki. She took cosmetic dentistry and the straightening of the teeth a step further and completed a 2 year post graduate diploma in progressive orthodontics. Vikki also trained with the Australian Facial Aesthetics Association (AAFDA) to develop “Full Face Orthodontics”.

Orthodontics, facial aesthetics combined with facial balance and family friendly general dentistry is what the entire family is about. The Keith Nelson Dental Family now extends past Keith and his daughter. It now includes all the staff and all the patients.
